How many of you have stopped to take a photo of your knight in front of the George White Elementary School sign on Chapparosa Park Road? Anyone who saw the sign last year will remember that it was falling apart and desperately in need of a make-over. Enter George White alum, Micah Ivory. As part of his Eagle Scout service project benefitting his community, Micah spent over thirty hours this summer building a brand new George White Elementary School sign. Micah is now a sophomore at Dana Hills High School and says his best memory of George White was "the games the PTA Moms would organize on Fridays," aka Friday Field Day. Many thanks Micah! We love our new sign!
Let's dispel three common myths about getting involved in the PTA:
Myth #1: If I pay money to join the PTA, I have to attend the monthly meetings.
Absolutely NOT! You attend when you can and if you can. PTA meetings are NOT mandatory. Our monthly meetings are a chance for you to keep abreast of the financial decisions being made about monies raised, as well as a chance to hear other happenings concerning the school. You can ask questions and voice your opinions. The PTA appreciates everyone's membership, whether or not you can attend meetings.
Myth #2: I work full-time so I can't possibly find time to volunteer.
NO. There are many opportunities to help with PTA events and programs throughout the year. And while you do not have to volunteer to be a member of the PTA, there are always opportunities to get involved. There is something for every commitment and interest level, whether you choose to join the board, chair a committee, or just volunteer one hour for a school event.
Myth #3: PTA members are a tight-knit social group that is hard to break into.
NOT TRUE. PTA members are there for one reason; To help their children and the school succeed. The majority of members do know each other as a result of working together on various PTA projects, but our George White group is friendly and welcoming to ALL. Give us a chance to get to know you too!
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful George White families and staff for kicking off the school year with an amazing, fun-filled Ice Cream Social. Special thanks to Michelle Dellner and Karin Campbell for their hard work and dedication to making this a memorable event.
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. The George White PTA has begun its annual membership drive to kick off another exciting school year of enrichment programs for our children. Programs such as Meet the Masters Art, Science Lab with Mr. Fogg & the Discovering Science program, K-3 Music, Computer Lab instruction & PE are not provided by the school district due to state budget cuts. It is our goal to raise enough money annually to provide these important programs to the students at our school. Without enough funding, we will be forced to cut some of the programs that our kids have become accustomed to. Our membership goal this year is to raise $45,000 & have 100% membership among the families and teachers at our school.
The membership packet came home in your child's blue envelope yesterday. We ask that you fill out the forms and return them to your child's teacher as soon as possible so that we can begin planning the enrichment programs for the school year. We have multiple Pay-Pal payment options available, just click on the “Become a Member” tab above.
This year, as an incentive for getting your forms turned in quickly, your family will be entered into a raffle to win a Go Pro Hero Waterproof Camcorder. Two Go Pro Heros will be raffled off, with the first drawing being held at flag salute on Monday, September 14th and the second drawing on Monday, September 21st. Be sure to get your membership forms turned in before Friday, September 11th in order to be entered into BOTH drawings.
