GW Families, for those of you wondering for months who will be our new principal, the news broke today that we will have to keep waiting. They have not yet found a principal that is the best fit for GW. However, they have appointed an interim principal to keep us in line while they find the perfect candidate. Ann Sullivan is our interim principal and she has a wonderful background and comes highly recommended. Please see the email below from her that was sent out on listserv today. See you all soon! Dear George White Staff, Families and Community,
Welcome back! I hope that you had time to rest, relax, revitalize, and spend time with family and friends. Isn’t it amazing how quickly the summer passes by? It seems just a few short weeks ago you were celebrating the end of another highly successful school year and wishing your former principal Dr. Greg Merwin the very best in his new role as Executive Director for Capistrano Unified School District.
During the weeks that followed, district and school personnel have worked diligently to find a new principal that would be a perfect match for George White Elementary School. The District is committed to finding the “best fit” for this position and has chosen to continue their search for a highly qualified permanent replacement.
Until this critical selection is made, it’s my extreme pleasure to share with you that I have been chosen to be your interim principal for the opening of the 2015-2016 school year.
A little about myself: After 39 exceedingly fulfilling years as an elementary and middle school educator, I retired in 2014. Initially, I taught kindergarten through seventh grade, taught teaching methodology classes at Cal Poly Pomona, and served as a middle school assistant principal in Walnut Valley Unified School District. In Huntington Beach City District, I served as a principal at Agnes Smith Elementary School for six years. Then in 1999, I had the honor of opening a new site, Huntington Seacliff Elementary School and there helped to build an exemplary instructional program before retiring.
As you would predict, Dr. Merwin left George White very well organized and I feel confident and enthusiastic about welcoming our students and families on August 25. I am thrilled to be a part of a school community that has a reputation for providing innovative and forward thinking instructional practices, for a staff that displays a passionate work ethic and tremendous dedication to the students they teach and for a committed community that has the best interest of all the students we serve.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know and to work closely with you in the days ahead. Please feel free to stop by my office to say hello. And don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns.
